When clients walkin for buffet they must not be allowed straight to pick the spoons and food cover as they may be carrying GERMS in their hands, especially nowdays (and during summer. So they must wash hands. You must guide to wash basin as in
The only authentic SouthIndian restaurant serving excellent varieties of tasty food made from traditional recipes.
The best South Indian food with amazing Dine in facility and quality food/service. Very much enjoyed their warm welcome and pleasant customer service!!
Good service, good food, worth the $ you spend.
The food here is amazing! I've tried about everything on the menu and there is not a weak item. The selection is great and the prices are unbelievably low. Not to mention that the restaurant is family owned, which gives it a homey feel. I highly reccommend this restaurant.
Definitely South Indian with Dosa , Iddly, Vadai, Sambhar, Chutney, Chitrannam etc.
Buffet is worth more than twice what is being charges.
Quality is topnotch and authentic. Chef is definitely from South India with a great repertoire. You will not miss the meat when you have vegetarian fodd like this. Owner?manager made rounds asking if the food was acceptable. Virundhombal at best.
Ala cart menu is primitive in presentation. Snacks are above average but not superlative. Bhajji and Vadai are terrific. They have Credit card facilities now so they are listening to comments. I think they have the best Iddlis this side of the atlantic and will sell you their dough or cooked. Sambhar and chutney are expensive compared to the iddlis (probably because of price of Tur dhal and coconut)
Hope they can keep up this standard.
Love this restaurant , food is excellent , clean atmosphere, nice and cordial customer service...prices are reasonable, one truly gets the taste and feel of the real India.
nice restaurant, good service, tasty food and low prices.
must go.
You must start collecting payments by CREDIT CARDS. That is a MUST. Most restaurants and hotels or even Grocery shops accept Credit Cards. Go to a small chinese restaurant, they accept Credit Cards. Nobody charges any surcharges. Why not a small restaurant? Why not THE NILGIRIS accept without a surcharge?
Excellent yummy food. We come here all the way from Brampton...well worth it!!
I observed day by day the dishes they serve in their daily buffet are inreasingly tastier I dont think anyone would regret the money they pay. My request is that the daily (26 days) visitors should be considered for a disount using a card service. Although at least once a week green leaves served consider inclusion in daily menu. No one to beat you for iddly and chatney sambaar! hats off.
I am wondering if its of any use if NILGIRI is not responding to our comments here. Hello the manager or owner please be peompt enough to respond here to the public when they request from you for something like credit card acceptance for payment or else the discount for regular visitors. No communication is perfect unless its bothway.
By the way my constructive comments are that the
excellent resteurant for south Indian food. great rasam, vada, dosas
They are loosing the quality since they grow big.
It is very awesome restatirant.....!!!! Escpecially the workers .. They are always welcoming and ever similing ...good work..keep it up... Nice south Indian restaurant !!!
Mr.Balu is doing a great service to the South Indian community. VAAZGA PALLANDU
Very good, authentic South Indian food, the idlis and masala dosa the best in Toronto. Very humble, polite staff.
The idly is awesome. The owner showed good hospitality. - peter
Excellent food
I Go there like 2-3 times a week
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great food at fantastic prices
brings back the taste of india .....
Great place to eat Dosai, Idly and other vegetarian food
I just happened to stumble in out of curiosity as i was actually visiting the al karam sweets on the corner. i tried the madras thali and my wife their idlis. the food was very good, and the prices very reasonable. Their sambhar, rasam and chutneys were excellent. the thali was very good too, but the puri could have been softer and some of the vege items were a little low on salt and seasonings, but the rice was awesome, and the qty's good. We will be definitely going back again, as we found their service and food overall very good. in fact i thought it was quite a find! keep it up guys and listen to your customers!
Yummiest South Indian Cuisine in GTA..
good vegi food. I do not know if there is any additive, preservatives or chemicals added in the food!
Never change recipe same food every time I go there. same buffeet menu.
I know this place for the past five year now they are loosing the old traditional south indian taste
excelent service and food
Its a pretty good restaurant in toronto.. hats off to the chef Sam...
good, tasty and quality food
As the morning sunlight starts to warm up the cool air, I opened the doors to Nilgiri's. The atmosphere was at once so calming- the morning sunlight streaming in along with the aroma of fresh idlis, vadas, sambhar and coffee! That was my first visit to Nilgiri's. I have been there many times after, promising myself that I'd try out all the goodies on the menu.
While I would rate the food as the second-best (south-indian food) I've had in the GTA (Sarvana Bhavan being my favourite), the atmosphere is definitely, by-far the best. The service is excellent, the staff is caring, courteous and makes you feel totally at home. During buffet hours, they bring fresh dosas and refills to the table, and you feel the same hospitality that you would at a relative's home in India. I love the personal touch which I have only experienced before in South-India when we walk into a restaurant with the sign
Lots of these reveiws seem to be written by insiders for sure...as a once ardent Nilgiris food fan though, I'm getting more and more convinced that they are going down the drain! Thier service sucked from day one...however, I thought it will improve with experience. However to my utter dismay it is only getting worse. I've been going there for more than 3 years now for a-la-carte on weekday nights. I used to ignore the shortcomings in their service (they just cannot manage the very basics of any restaurant - taking orders and procseeing them right, giving you water when you come in , orders are always messed up - each and every time - yes 100% of times I've been there) for the food quality. However, the food quality has also gone down. For the second time in a row they served me a dosa that had gone cold! (you could make out it was sitting in the kitchen just waiting to b served and got cold in the process). Then my wife's dosa was extremely oily - unlike their standard. I've reduced my visits to the place and will probably stop going there completely. Over the years I've seen lots of furious customers there due to the service and am surprised they still do not get the message! It is a pity that a once good place, is going down the drain (the traffic has definitley reduced in the past couple of years - earlier it used to be full when we went there now it is pretty empty!!). I know their weekend - buffet is a hit and its busy there on weekends - however - on weekdays they do the worst job any restaurant can do.
We were pleasantly surprised to find this little authentic Tamil restaurant in its little obscure strip mall. We've eaten there numerous times with reducing frequency and after my last visit, we will not be returning. On my last visit, we showed up a few minutes before the buffet opened. The server was perfectly pleasant but the whole visit was doomed from the beginning. The owner or manager (I'm not sure), a Mr. Dwivedi, felt extremely at home and decided to blow his nose into the sink placed adjacent to the buffet table. Serving yourself food while an individual decides to clear his phlegm is less than appetizing. We then found a hair in our watery potato curry. The smoke alarm annoyingly chirped every 30 seconds begging for its battery to be changed. Calling the dosas paper thin would be an understatement. It was quite hard to soak up any sambar or the curry when the dosa shattered like a chip. When we asked for a thicker dosa, they did honour our request but the dosa was thick as a pancake and cold.
After the last sit in meal we had, we still had a hankering for dosa and decided to get a take out container of dosa batter. They filled up our tupperware and charged us for 3 containers when the same tupperware had only filled 2 on previous occasions.
Sadly, they have turned into extremely mediocre restaurant that wants to rip off their customers and serves substandard food with unwelcome background noises.
GREAT FOOD!We loved it....Now we always go to Nilgiris.
This was one of my least enjoyable experiences in Brampton. The service was ghastly. They refused to follow normal restaurant elegance. They gave us false reassurance that our food would be available within 5 minutes however it took them over an hour to serve us . After such wait their food quality and quantity were unsatisfactory. Upon confrontation the waiters were very rude and spoke with loud voices. They refused to admit that anything had been done wrong on their part.
If you want your Indian experience to be bad memory then I would suggest this restaurant.
The Buffet is so authentic and tasty. Tasted like eaten Mom's food after a long time.
I have always enjoyed this restaurant. I do not know how you managed to transport this restaurant to Brampton, because it is located in Scarborough. Evidently you have mistaken this restaurant for another one.
this place used to be an excellent place for south Indian cuisine. but not any more its falling apart! we went there yesterday Jan 15th 2012 with friends the waitress suggested starters chilli baaji, plantain baaji and methu vada!! and when we got our starters we were shocked!! IT WAS So CoLD!! when we asked the waitress she was like oh we made it this evening do u want it heated up?? i was like WHAT? then came the dosa which were ordered and it tasted absolute rubbish!! the people who were sitting behind us was so upset with the food too.. NILGIRS SERVES STALE FooD IN A LESS STARNDARD ENVIRoNMENT!!

Best so in Town in South Indian Dishes.
Specially for Brakefast, Light Lunches & Dinner
Its like being back at home. Going out to have morning brakefast & OR take out for the family at home.
You are at work OR Sightseeing forgot to pack a Lunch.
With the family out in the evening, Surprise OR Treat the family for Dinner.
NEED TO REMOVE GARLIC FROM RASAM RECIPE TO MAKE IT MORE TASTY. OTHERWISE AN EXCELLENT OPERATION.
poor maintenance they are not providing basic things .
Exceptional food at reasonable prices
Agree with the review, had the same experience on August 8th 2012. Avoid this restaraunt at all costs.
This Resturant is okay. The buffet was not fresh at all. Also, When i just left a bite of rice they charge me an extra 1.00. It is also expensive. The food from the menu is Really good, however, it is expensive. For a veg thali it would be 7.00-9.00 which is expensive. But it is worth it. out of 10 i would give 6-7. You should try the menu.
went to Nilgiri in Brampton on Gore Rd.
Stay away from the place, their attitude is horrible. When you enter it seems fine. they will NEVER ask you for Sambhar,. I live in the area and they don't know courtesy. They weren't so bad, earlier.
Just yesterday I ate wit my husband and the Dosa was cold, we saw another gentleman say that at the same time. BAD PLACE !! Stay away..

Authentic South Indian Cuisine. Very tasty. I have been enjoying their cooking since they started more than a decade ago. This is one place that has maintained the quality and taste. Highly Recommended if you want to try a real authentic South Indian Cuisine

Excellent food, great service and a clean place. If you want to taste authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine, this is the place for you. I have been here many times and whenever I have visitors from out of town I bring them here for good food at a reasonable price.
The food was OK but service is below par. I had to wait for an hour before I could get to eat. Would suggest managemnt really look at this problem...Dont cut corners please
The rice was half cooked, but when I complained the manager about it, he said that is how long grain basmati would look like. I was a rice merchant back home!!!
THIS RESTAURANT WAS SO BAD WRONG ORDERS
Poor and aweful
Worst food and stale and bad service. Will never go again
food was awesome. great taste and lovely color and best is biriyani...
After reading less than sober reviews we decided to try this place assuming people could be demanding when they write reviews but boy I was wrong and believed very word of bad reviews of them after I dined.
I visited this place with my family and I felt embarrassed to bring them over.
Without wasting my time and respecting readers time, here is summary:
Poor Service: Only 2 waiters for place of 70 seas they say..waiter seated us and did not return at least 15min. Table had only 2 glasses almost until the end of dinner for 4 of us, 2 spoons no forks...with 4 dinner/dosa ordered...only arrived after reminding few times.
Food: Dosage very soggy, and half cooked. sambhar cold, very small bowl and tasted literally daal. Masala vada hard like rock.
Hygiene: All staff seems family had their head covered with net hats and aprons but a strange weired sight when one of the guy in his winter jacket kept going in and out of kitchen area to the wander around the whole restaurant. I noticed he stood in payment line but then went inside the kitchen and kept staring at customers lol... may be owner or his friend..???
Price: Average but its not worth it. You get what you pay for. Try other top Rosa places..drive a bit far..but you would like them.
Food ordered. Mysore dosa, Masala dosage (3), Sambhar vadas. Cold drinks (not so cold).
Did not order idlis as they claim but not much confidence anymore. Visited during March break of March 2015.
